Ahead of this October's much-anticipated GOCarbonFibre 2017, Harper International have shared a white paper on 'Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis for off-gas mixing and ventilation inside carbonisation furnace during PAN-based carbon fibre manufacturing'.
Ventilation of released gas from stabilised precursor during its carbonisation is important for high quality carbon fibre manufacturing, and careful consideration of the released gas is important for the design of the carbonisation system. The impact of the carbonisation reaction on the process energy required, off-gas composition and atmosphere properties are important to the continued scale-up of higher production rate carbon fibre systems.
This white paper uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to analyse nitrogen cover gas and process off-gas to determine off-gas concentration differences as well as flow uniformity within the process.
