Ahead of this October's much-anticipated GOCarbonFibre 2017 we spoke with Daniel Tyrkas, Business Development Manager - Automotive, at Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber & Composites about advanced carbon fibre materials, high volume applications, the future of carbon fibre and more...
Q1. Your presentation looks at advanced carbon fibre materials and processing, why is this important to discuss?
To grow applications for cabon fibre materials, it is important to bring the total system cost down. One of the enablers are materials and processes allowing for short cycle times, elimination of secondary operations and higher degrees of automation.
Q2. What are the benefits of high volume applications?
If done right, higher volumes brings the total cost per part down. -> Economy of scale.
Q3. Where do you foresee the carbon fibre industry is headed in the next 5 years and why?
The carbon fibre industry will continue to grow. Innovative materials and processes will contribute to that growth.
Q4. What are you most looking forward to by speaking and attending GOCarbonFibre 2017?
I am looking forward to explaining Mitsubishi Chemical Carbon Fiber & Composites' new innovative materials and processes enabling higher volume CFRP part production, learning about the latest developments in the carbon fibre industry and also networking with other CF-industry experts and customers.
Daniel will be presenting as part of the OEM Applications, Material Challenges and Developments session at the conference this October. Other presenters in the session include Airbus, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, RISE, InCA Technologies and Sigmatex.
