Ahead of his presentation at this Octobers' GOCarbonFibre, we spoke to Julien Sellier, Managing Director and Co-founder of STRUCTeam, to get his view on the evolution of carbon fibre in the wind energy sector, what the future holds and more.
Q1. Could you please provide us with a quick overview about what you will present at this conference?
I will be presenting a forecast on the growth of carbon fibre in the wind energy sector. Discussions will centre on the commercial benefits of using this advanced material to manufacture robust, reliable turbine blades whilst ensuring a secure supply chain. The use of carbon fibre within this sector is not new, however, we will identify the pain points and enabling elements for OEM’s to adopt carbon fibre on a significant scale.
Q2. How has the wind energy sector evolved? What does the future look like?
The future is bright and holds much potential. Carbon fibre is not a new application in the wind energy sector - it is yet to reach its full potential. I look forward to a lively debate centred around the lessons learned from the past two decades and how we can create a sustainable growth path for this highly advantageous product within the composites industry.
Q3. Why do you consider relevant to speak at GoCarbonFibre 2018?
I am looking forward to speaking at GoCarbon Fibre. This event provides an excellent forum to express opinions and generate ideas around the industry. It is a high calibre, networking opportunity that I enjoy attending each year.
Julien will be presenting as part of the Wind Power and Marine Industry breakout session on day one of the conference. Some of the key points he will cover in his presentation include:
- The commercial benefits of using carbon fibre to manufacture robust, reliable turbine blades whilst ensuring a secure supply chain
- Identifying the pain points and enabling elements for OEMs to broadly adopt carbon fibre
